Create Facebook 3D Photos using Photoshop and an iPhone

In this tutorial, learn how to create 3D Facebook Photos with layered graphics, using Adobe Photoshop, the Depth Cam iPhone app, and Facebook.

By using Portrait Mode on the iPhone, you can upload photos to Facebook and have them appear as 3D photos, creating an eye-catching parallax effect when users scroll through your feed. But did you know you can create them using graphics, photos, and layered images?

Follow these quick steps to create and upload your own 3D photos to Facebook!

Create a Photoshop document with the settings 1125x1500.

Duplicate all layers, and create a duplicate of the layout using black, white and grays. White being the background, black the foreground, and gray the layers in between.

Save the files and move them to your iPhone. You can do this with air drop, dropbox, google drive, or emailing them to yourself.

Download the app “depth cam,” a depth camera app for the iPhone.

Navigate to your photostream, and select “Create Depth Map”.

Locate the main image you created.

Next, select “import depth map.”

Locate the black & white depth map image, and select it. This will add both images.

To combine them into one Portrait Mode photo, click the “save” icon in the bottom right, then select “Save Facebook 3D Photo.”

This will save the image to your iPhone’s camera roll, where it will now appear as a Portrait Mode photo.

In the Facebook app, navigate to your profile, select “status,” and scroll down until you see “3D photo.” This will display only your Portrait Mode photos.

Facebook will load the 3D image, where it can be previewed.

The 3D photo will now appear in your Facebook feed!
